Everyday I drive from Shawnee to Midwest City for work. And then back home again. You see some stuff, the Love's that got demolished by the tornado last year, grass fires (a lot here lately), and the occasional accident. One day I even had to change a flat tire on the shoulder of I40 in the middle of the afternoon rush, while the whole family stood by and watched. Hell we even had a cop stop and ask if we needed anything, "a cold beer" is what I thought but I said no to get rid of him because at the time I believe our tag was just a touch expired.
The biggest gripe I have is other drivers, I know everybody says that, but I have been driving that stretch of road every day for about three years now. And it is the same asshats that piss me off every morning. Like the butthole in the red Charger that rides my ass when I am going 80 and there is a line of cars in front of me in both lanes and nowhere to go....speeds up to my bumper, then backs off, then speeds up again. Or the lady in the white Honda accord putting on her makeup, in the fucking dark, while weaving back and forth at 75 miles an hour. That is just a couple of individual examples.
There are also those pinheads that squeeze in front of you when you barely have a car length between you and the car your trailing. Or the left lane driver going 60 when the speed limit is 70, or the dude getting on the highway who slows down at the end of the ramp instead of trying to merge into traffic; hey buddy, grow a pair and speed the fuck up and merge into traffic like a real man. This is the kind of crap I deal with every morning and every evening. Not to mention getting on base in the morning. It is a genuine cluster fuck, people stopping in the middle of the intersection or running lights so the can get through the gate.
All that being said, I would rather put up with that than drive in most small towns around the state, nothing worse that sitting at the only stop sign in town waiting for the Old Lady in her land yacht to decide which way she is gonna turn or if it is safe to go yet........driving pisses me off. On top of that, my wife thinks I drive too aggressive sometimes and doesn't like the hand signals I give to the other drivers. Go figure.....

I am pissed....

What a day, crap and shit! Woke up in a foul mood and went to work and spread it around. I hate to admit it but I can be a bit if an asshole at times. Had a lot on my plate today then somebody called and decided that I wasn't doing things the way they thought I should....so I let them know I was not having that shit today. Then paced the floor for about ten minutes and then got a bit behind and before I know it it is 6:30 and I still got things to do. I hate that-one person with the wrong attitude can screw up your day-and then if you were already in a bad mood well CRAP. So I vented with the wife on the way home and kind of felt better, but now I feel all wore out and if the past few nights are any indication, as soon as I lay down I will be wide fucking awake...
Well enough of that crap. Here is to better tomorrows and smoother sailing and better posts and so on and so on and so on and so.......

Saturday night in the "Not so big Town".....

Hopefully this day finds everyone safe from the shit storm of flame that has ravaged the area the last day or so. Friday afternoon at work I did some set-up on the roof of our building and I felt like I was in the middle of a campfire. We only had one or two fires out our way but nothing to the magnitude of the Harrah fires. My heart goes out to those people, to think only about a year and a half or so back we lived not very far from Reno and Dobbs, an area that was hit pretty hard. Between all the fires yesterday the OKC news people had their hands full. If not for an internet connection at work I would not have heard about the big disaster in Japan until today..
Anyway I hope every one fared well and am glad to hear there were no casualties (from the fires anyway).....
So I spent last night setting up a new bedroom suit my wife bought and then slept probably better than I have in a long time, we were well past due for a new bed. Spent most of today doing nothing and that is always nice hopefully tomorrow will be more of the same. The battery is about to go dead and SNL will be on soon so I better find my spot on the couch, be well, stay safe, and say your damn prayers before you go to sleep...OH and before I forget, set your damn clocks ahead an hour so you can curse the hour of sleep your gonna lose tonight..........

Tuesday....not Fat Tuesday but pretty damn big....

Ah, Tuesday, the bastard day of the week. It's not crappy Monday, not hump day, not Friday eve, or TGIF, and definitely not the weekend. Tuesday is a ho-hum ordinary regular day of the week. Busy at work, long day, makes for a short day at home. Seems like I see the kids about an hour a day, I know it's longer but with household chores and homework and bath time, as soon as we get relaxed it's bedtime and it all starts again. Go back twenty five years and ask 19 year old me if this was where I would be at 44 and I would kick your ass.
Looking back at the addition of each child and the trials and struggles we have had over the years I have to say I would not change a thing. Well in the broad sense anyway. There are minute fuck-ups that I would like mulligans on, but over all I am proud of the family I have and where we are right now. Every day is still a toss up but keeping a good attitude and my head down is working well. I have learned in the last week or so to spill the beans and speak my mind, not to let things fester and say what I mean. Still learning at this point, and still trying to be a better Dad and husband. I have to laugh at my ripe age I am still along way from being the grown-up I thought I would be....
With that I will call it good for now, and prepare the troops for another day on the battlefield of work and school. Keep on keepin' on...........

Oscars....meh

Yep parked in front of the TV since oh about 9 this morning off and on. Helped around the house made one hell of a baked chicken even made some freakin sweet sugar cookies. So about 6 the Oscar BS starts and now I want to poke my eyes out, this is the most painful shit I have ever witnessed. I would much rather watch some kind of highlight reel of the whole thing than sit through people thanking their dogs and awards for art direction and sound effects. This would be like us having an award ceremony at work once a year. The categories could be Best Office Suck-up, Best excuse for Using a Sick Day, or Best use of the Internet not for work purposes; nobody would want to sit through that crap. So hopefully this will be over soon so I can go to bed and not be a nominee for Best excuse For Being Late...........

Facebook, Twitter and MySpace oh my....

I find that when I get on the net I spend the first twenty minutes or so checking my Facebook page, then my Twitter feed and honestly hardly ever MySpace. What the hell is happening, I used to enjoy surfing the interwebs, looking at naughty pictures and reading funny shit, now I find myself reading inane ramblings 140 characters at a time, written by people I haven't seen in twenty years, or I haven't seen in twenty minutes. Twitter was fun at first, now all I get is Kevin Smith rambling on about his podcast, Wayne Coyne posting topless pictures of his wife, I am bored-bored-bored. I quit reading the newspaper because I get all my news from RSS feeds, I don't watch cable TV because I have Hulu. I miss the good old days before cell phones, when I could tell people that I was sorry I didn't get their call because I was away from my phone, or could get back to them because I missed their letter. It seems as though we are always connected and it is getting to be a pain in the ass. You can't play hooky from work without you digital footprint being picked up. You cant take a long lunch without your cell phone blowing up. Technology is invading my privacy. That is all for now I have to change my Facebook status and text my kids goodnight.........

Long Time....Strange week

Yes it has been a while, things have been hectic. Just got everyone off to bed, the house is quiet and here I sit. It's another three day weekend and everybody was chomping at the bit to get out of the house today so I put our perpetual brokeness aside and we headed for OKC. What started as a short trip ended up lasting about half the day but it was all good. We had some personal stuff to take care of and decided to head for Bricktown and check everything out, lot of construction and street closings down that way so we headed north and ended up at the Bombing Memorial. If you haven't been it is definitely a place to go and see in person if you are not from the area you can check it out here:http://www.oklahomacitynationalmemorial.org/

The place is a real somber yet beautiful reminder of the biggest tragedy our state has ever seen. The kids were very respectful and Carson, who is all of six years old, was very inquisitive, There are alot of things I missed in previous trips that I saw today. I have to say I am proud to be from Oklahoma and for the respect for those effected by this tragedy that this monument exudes. Go see it if you can.
So after the memorial we cruised around downtown, checked out the new Devon Building being erected and showed Carson the ballpark. It was a good trip.

Of course we can't have a trip to the "big" city without going out to eat. Being that it is hard to please everyone we ended up at Steak and Shake across from Tinker. The kids love it and I have to say I am a big fan of a good milkshake, but their fries are just too damn tiny. Anyway while we were eating there we noticed that one of the waitresses weaving in and out of the tables bore a striking resemblance to the main character in the game Diner Dash, surely you have seen this:

And believe it or not here name: Flo, no shit. Crazy huh? Anyway we had a good day managed a trip to the library and the video store in as well, watched "The Messenger" with Woody Harrelson, damn good movie, really better than I expected, check it out. So the end of the day has finally come and hopefully we will have more of the same tomorrow, do the same, will ya...please.

Nobody told me the Prez was on....

Tuesday sucks for TV and here I sit on the couch flipping channels and everywhere is Obama, I get enough of the government at my job so I say NO to that shit right away, so I am vaguely watching some crap on another Obama free channel. Although.. I wasn't born for another year and a half. Today my wife celebrates her 45th birthday. And of course it falls the day BEFORE payday, which sucks. So I have felt like shit all day because we didn't do anything. So lets take a trip down memory lane or as I like to call it........
MY WIFE and ME:
Robin and I met in 1988 we both worked at the same place and I am sure aside from us getting together there was nothing memorable about that place. She comes from a big family (8 brothers and sisters) and my family was considerably smaller. We pretty much fought on our very first date, I wanted to take her out someplace nice for dinner and she didn't want to go anywhere "fancy". So I uttered the most famous and repeated words of our 20+ years together, "FINE we'll just go to my house and eat and damned ham sandwich!" But everything went a lot better from that point on we ate Mexican food and went to the movies and saw "DIE HARD", the first one-yippee kiyay motherfucker. And I took her home and as I like to tell it ; as I slowed down in front of her house I heard a door slam and saw her waving good bye to me from the front porch.
Fast forward ahead a few months, past me farting in front of her mother, and asking stupid questions about the plates ("did you have a fire?")and in January of '89 we got married (on the 21st exactly on month before my birthday, I will never forget an anniversary). Rumors ran wild, people thought she might be pregnant, she was two years later (I remember who you are rumor spreading assholes). I never new I could love any body as much as I love her. The day we got married was one of the best days of my life. When I saw here in her wedding dress I just couldn't believe anybody could look that good, and what the hell did she see in me. I still wonder about that to this day. In '91 we had Hannah and having a child was amazing and a lot of work and worry and fun. So 5 years later we had Emily, girls everywhere, the house at times looked like a Barbie factory-dolls everywhere in various stages of undress and some with hair and some without. Believe it or not I felt like we had everything we needed and then I got the shock of my life in 2004 when she announced she was pregnant, could have hit me with a truck, and then later when I found out it was gonna be a boy I cried like I had been hit with one. Carson arrived in March of '04 to be spoiled by his big sisters and make us all laugh.
After all these years and all we have been through I can honestly say that not a day goes by that I don't wonder what she saw in me then and why she puts up with me now. I still think she is beautiful as she was in the late 80's even more so. I am glad we found each other, I am happy I can still make her laugh, and she can still make me laugh. She still can get me excited and still calm me down. When I go to sleep tonite I will thank God that she is my wife like have every day since January 21, 1989. Robin Happy Birthday, it ain't much but know this: I will always love you and always need you, you make me happy and you keep me grounded. Like I told you once before, You Made My Life. I love you......

Twas the night before...

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!! Yep tomorrow the kiddos start back to the books and such. Em has freshman orientation at Shawnee HS today. Robin and I drug Carson along later for a watermelon feed and the mandatory parents meeting (which we bailed out of , early!). There was a ton of folks there, I guess she has around 360 kids in her class. By comparison I think there was around 80 or so in my graduating class. The one thing I did notice about the evenings proceedings was that the AC in the lobby area everyone had gathered in was not living up to its potential, so given the number of people in attendance and the heat and close proximity to one another, I have to say the funk factor was a little high. Probably contributed a little to our early exit.
So school is back in session, so everybody remember that, school zone speed limits, kids walking to bus stops and school, so watch your speed. That friendly reminder is probably more for me than anything else. I think we are surrounded on all side by some type of school zone or another, luckily I leave way before the precious snowflakes head off for the day.
So the orientation eased some worries so I think Emily is now more excited than nervous, and Carson has been ready to start for about a week. I see a long night ahead. So hopefully we can get things wound down and get settled in for the night.
So be careful, feed them young uns a good breakfast and let's all try to make tomorrow a hell of a good day. If not, the thing about life is this: there is always tomorrow, peace................................

burning up and it's 11:00

Crap, it is after 11 and I am still sweating, the damn air conditioner has not quit running since about two this afternoon and is just now starting to catch up. I have been steady watching the weather and they keep showing rain but it is still way north of Shawnee. Hopefully we will get some tomorrow, this heat has got to break soon.
Found out today that the union members voted to ratify the new contract. Which is a relief and an amazement at the same time. I am glad the threat of a possible work stoppage is no longer likely and we can get back to concentrating on work. And I am amazed that it passed after talking to some of the workers on the day of the vote. Seemed like the general thought was that the negotiations did not go on long enough and that we caved and took the first offer....
All in all it seems pretty cut and dry. The money is about the same, the rate and time of raises id the same our percentage of what we pay for insurance remained the same, we got a bump in protective gear and foul weather gear, and gained a couple of days in personal leave. We did okay and I am sure given the state of the economy we should all be glad to be employed and to be getting a yearly bump in pay....that's the way I see it anyway and I do understand both sides.
Had a pretty quiet day today. Made a run to the post office, helped out around the house a bit, even got in about a thirty minute snooze on the couch. Now one by one they are headed for bed and Em is watching SNL and here I sit, hopefully tomorrow will be a restful day and we can start the week off on a good note.
This is the last weekend for summer around here. Thursday it is back to school for the kids, the ones still living at home anyway. Carson is super excited, he will be starting the first grade and be going to a new school this year. Emily will be a freshman in HS this year and seems a bit nervous, but since we moved up here she has made a lot of friends and I think she will do fine. I vaguely remember my first days of high school but I had the fortune of going to a fairly small school and had all the same friends with me since the second grade. Where the hell they are now, I have no idea. Of all my friends on facebook, I think only one of them is somebody I knew in school. That really doesn't bother me, I tend to look forward and not back.
I guess that is what I have to really work at on a daily basis. Look forward not back, over the last few years things have happened in my personal life that I would like to forget, sometimes I can and sometimes I cant. The only thing I am certain about is tomorrow has to be better than today, and that means every day. Doesn't always work out that way but more often than not it does. If there is one thing I can teach my kids, or that I hope they learn from me is that everyday look for the little things that make you smile. Remember those and shit-can the rest. I didn't do anything to speak of today but looking back, Carson made me laugh, Emily made me smile, Robin made me love and feel loved, and Hannah checked in so we knew she was doing okay. All in all a pretty damn good day.......so go and have one yourself...........

Man what a day...

been a loooong day today. Contract negotiations for the union that I am in are done and we vote on the contract tomorrow. Lots and lots of rumor and people talking out of their asses all day today. Going to take a long hard look at the new contract and vote around lunch tomorrrow. Hopefully know something before this time tomorrow. Kind of stressful, when you have a number of people that work together and do a lot of different jobs, what looks good to you may not look so great to somebody else. But if the past is any indication, and the state of todays economy, we should not miss a beat. Still never know, just gonna keep a good attitude and hope for the best.
Watched Big Brother again tonite, I guess that is my guilty pleasure for the summer. I tell you I would kick that John Quiniones (farked up spelling) right in the nuts if he set me up in some kind of embarrassing situation. That is what I would do, then call him an asshole. Because I believe that putting people in awkward, embarrassing, and potentially painful situations is wrong. and if you disagree I think that is your right as a human being and I respect that as long as you respect my right to think otherwise. I try not to think about things like that I have more serious and pressing things to worry about. And I cant say with any certainty that I want to live that long, maybe I do, maybe I dont-dont want to think about it. So I did what I always do made a big joke and then went and curled up into the fetal position and sucked my thumb for an hour.....
Speaking of Facebook, it is kind of like a cell phone, hard to imagine life before it. Now I can troll throught the pages of people that i used to know and see how they look now. That can be a bit much at times and then I laugh and remember they can do me the same way. And to be honest I never take a good picture so I am sure I have been the source of a good chuckle from time to time. Things I need to worry about and things that have just decided to barge in and take up residence in my conscience. Worry is a funny thing, relatively speaking. I have a boat-load of shit that worries me; money, job, kids, money, money.....you get the picture. But there are actually times when I feel pretty good and things are how they should be and then I worry about not having anything to worry about. Not the case here lately, shit loads of stuff to keep me awake. So instead of sleep I have the headphones on listening to some music and typing away hoping this will at least relax me ; we'll see....
Lazy day today, just hung around the house and helped the wife with basic around the house crap. The girls went out to do a little back to school shopping, tax free weekend and all. What the hell is with the tax free weekend-no school supplies? What the fuck is the purpose? The clothing thing is OK but then they put a dollar limit on it; asinine. If you have kids getting ready for school then you know 100 dollars doesn't buy much...Anyway while they were gone me and Carson hung around the house. He was playing a game on the computer and I was kicked back on the couch watching TV, I guess I must have drifted off for a bit because I awoke to him tapping me on the head, scared the crap out of me, he laughed and pissed my pants (not really). So when the girls got back he and I took a cruise over to the Sonic and indulged in some Orange Slushy goodness and went to Shawnee Honda and checked out the motor cycles and then went to Orchelens (I'm sure I garbled that spelling all to hell) and rang the cowbells and made all manner of trouble, then we headed for home and the AC. Pretty weak activities I know but that's life in the big city. Think I will try to get a little sack time before the sun comes up, tomorrow will hopefully be a better day......

Blah, blah, blah, Thursday, blah, blah......

Well here I sit earlier than usually by a minute or two, forcing myself to fill the blank "page" with words and stuff. My routine is getting pretty regular, about 10 or 10:30 the wife and the son hit the sack and my daughter gets her TMZ on and then watches The Office, and I check twitter and facebook for anything new and exciting and then I end up here staring at the blinking cursor....
So i was sitting at my desk today staring out the window watching cars whizz by and people going in and out of stores across the interstate. I guess I am fortunate in a way since I have such a view and I can tell you that I have seen plenty of interesting sights from my chair over looking Interstate 40 and Target. In the four years I have been there I have seen the Best Buy, Old Chicago, Chic-Filet, and Cheddars rise from the Midwest City dust. I have also seen the light pole at the Town Center westbound off-ramp get knocked over or just missed seeing it topple on at least ten different occasions. I have seen numerous variety of law enforcement pull over to ticket or to aid motorists on my little stretch of road. But the craziest thing I guess I have had the fortune (or misfortune depends on how you look at it) was a tractor trailer mishap a couple of years ago. Hold on and strap yourself in cause here we go......
I arrived to work early that day, no reason, as usual couldn't sleep. So I started the coffee and logged into my computer and was reading an e-mail when I heard the sound of skidding tires on pavement. I looked up just in time to see one of those double decker cattle hauling trucks lay completely over on its side. My first thought was ; I sure hope everybody is OK (actually my first thought was "sweet a wreck") then I noticed that there was quite a load on that trailer and I wondered what would happen next. So me and my co-workers stood looking out the various windows of our building off and on for the next hour or so as many, many people showed up to assist. They constructed a make-shift pin from cattle panels (if you are not familiar with this click here) and began to carefully offload the cattle. That was just a mess some came right out and others were obviously injured in some form or another. Then after a few minutes I lost interest and went back to work until I heard the words "that guy has a gun out" and "I wonder if they are going to shoot some of those cows?" Then I had to look and I really don't know if I am glad I did or not because the next thing I saw was a man walk up to the makeshift pin and shoot the closest cow with a handgun, in the head, and the cow did not budge. I mean it looked at the guy like "what the hell was that?"-so the guy shot the cow again. And this time the cow kind of staggered a little and then looked at the guy again, so , you guessed it , he shot the cow in the head for a third time , this time the cow went down like a bag of wet cement. I couldn't tell you what happened after that because I closed the blind. Who knew making maps for the Air Force would expose you to that kind of action? Not me, that's for damn sure...........

Oh no it is wednesday.......

Man what a day, hot, hot, hot, I HATE SUMMER. I have sweated soooo much the last couple of days. Haven't had any real rain to speak of and the damn grass keeps getting higher and higher. Cut it and it grows, wish that would work on my head. I will be so glad when fall gets here, cooler weather, football, Halloween all that crap. I had a decent enough day, buried in dull mindless data mining at work making the days drag a bit but the kids seem all good, and the wife is good (aside from some aches and pains, which I can relate) so hopefully we can ride this tide of complacency into payday and get the kids ready for school which is a mere couple of weeks away. School starting is great for many reasons not the least of which is the fact that we get back into a routine, normal bedtimes, meals, chores, the whole enchilada. Both kids (still living at home) are starting at new schools this year which should be interesting, I am sure they will both do great and I am sure they are both excited and can hardly wait to get started (right Emily?).
On a completely unrelated matter; a website I frequent lost one of their regular contributors the other day and the owner of said sight posted a bit about the man and the legacy that we all leave behind in this the digital age. with the advent of social networking and blogs and such and the legacy you leave behind may be something that hangs around quite a while even after we are gone. This got me to thinking, is that good or bad-cant decide. While I want what ever remains after I am gone to be a footprint of who I was, I also never know how what I do, say, write, or post will be received. I try to write what I feel, and sometimes force myself to write even when my heart is not in it. I guess in the end my hope would be that my family will carry on my memory and that those out there who see what I do online can see and share the memory what I thought, felt, or saw at a particular moment in time. In this day and age our activity on the web will be a time capsule of sorts that will be left for others to discover. People may not know me, but they can at least share in the things that make me laugh, make me sad, make me angry, or just know the things I wanted to share. So remember what you do in life will always be around.......as long as the servers don't crash.........

Holy Shit it's still Tuesday

But not for much longer. Got home from work today went to the store ate some dinnerand then ventured outside to cut some grass.....started with the weed eater and was banging right along and the spool got close to the end and slung a piece out and got me in the leg. Hurt like HELL, but partially my fault because I have been opting for the shorts whilst doing the yard work lately. Probably not my wisest decision but for the sake of comfort it has worked out pretty well...until today. So that was the end of yard work for today. I will be so glad when fall gets here, cooler weather , football, kids back to school and not sleeping til noon; but for the cool weather mostly. Between the heat and the damn mosquitos I am either sweating or scratching and to be honest I cant stand either one. So just before I started this I hit up Gary England on Twitter and told him to get us some cold air in here pronto, so I am sure the end is in sight, cause it is Gary England and I am sure he has power over that kind of stuff, am I right?

Holy Shit It's Tuesday

How much is too much? What is the minimum age one should have reached to make a facebook page? Why does the guy sitting next to me take so long to do his work? Why did I not bring something for lunch? These are the questions I asked myself so far today. It is not even noon and I have already got more work than I can do today, and I seem to be the lone ranger for the rest of the day; par for the course. As I look out my office window at the cars whizzing by on I-40 I wonder what the hell am I doing here, what the hell else could I be doing, and why am I doing it by myself ? Questions, questions, questions......anyway I am posting this ia eail, more or less to test and see if it works and also because my blog is blocked by the powers that be in the Air Force. So that is all for now no more questions, and absolutely very little answers...............

I take back that last statement......

Ok, so I was a little wrong, the garage sale worked out OK. We actually made a little money and got rid of some crap and made room for more crap in the garage for crap in the house we wanted to put in the garage. The circle of life continues.
Aside from that; today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I will leave it at that. I have learned over the last few years to count my blessings and be thankful for the good things. And for me good things are like sleep, I rarely get either one. Now I am not talking about the everyday good things like making my son laugh really hard, or seeing my daughter grin because she is happy, or spending time with my wife-those are things I cherish on a daily basis. What I am talking about is not getting screwed over by somebody just because they can, or getting dumped on at work just because I happen to be there; crappy stuff like that. For once that didn't happen today so for that I am thankful and when I say my prayers at bedtime I will give a hearty "thank you" to the man upstairs and live to fight another day......and my faith in humanity, very thin at this point, will remain intact.

Garage sales suck

Spent the bulk of the evening helping the wife get ready for tomorrows big garage sale. My ass is dragging. It has been a long day and if you know anything about having a garage sale, the vultures will be ringing the doorbell early in the am regardless of what time you have posted on the sign. With that being said absolutely nothing out of the ordinary happened today, nothing good, nothing bad-just another day; somebody knock on wood.
Aftermath of last nights primary elections seemed the bulk of the chatter today. Oklahoma will have two female gubenatorial candidates in the general election, A first for our state which always seems a bit behind the curve on damn near everything. As far as the other races, I didnt really pay too much attention.
On other non related issues; I got right in to work today no lines. I should explain-I work on a military installation somewhre in the OKC area (guess) and with about half of the gates undergoing some sort of upgrade or construction the morning drive in is usually halted by a long wait at the gate to show your ID. Not so today............probably tomorrow.
Well so goes my first post back in about 4 years, tomorrow is another day and maybe a better more interesting post, just wanted to jump in and get my feet wet again, so if you are reading this, thanks.....
